One person was killed in a shooting at a popular Iowa shopping mall, authorities said Friday.
Witnesses say they heard gunshots near the food court of the Coral Ridge Mall after 7 p.m. local time. They say a gunman shot at least one female victim and then fled. Iowa Department of Public Safety spokesman Alex Murphy confirmed that the victim had died.
Authorities arrested the a suspect, but did not release any information on the suspect or the victim.
The mall is near Interstate 80 in Coralville, a community of 19,000 people in eastern Iowa. It’s the second-largest mall in Iowa.
The shooting prompted some shoppers and workers to rush out of the mall and others to remain on lockdown for more than an hour.
