Abuse Deterrent Formulations are a Critical Step in Solving the Opioid Crisis

08/18/2017 Published on Forbes.com
Last week, President Trump took an important step toward solving the opioid crisis by declaring it a national emergency.

Labeling the problem as a public health emergency allows for federal funds to expand treatment options, in addition to other critical solutions.

This is a good start to solve the epidemic, but this is by no means enough.

(DISCLOSURE: From August 2015 to October 2017, I served on the board of the Rosenthal Center for Addiction Studies, and conducted marketing research for them. The opinions in this article are my own.)

In his statement, the President vaguely explained that, "we’re going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the opioid crisis."

President Trump has yet to give any specific plans on stopping the opioid crisis. But what is clear is we are facing a crisis of monumental proportions that demands a comprehensive approach.

We need a plan. Now that the President has labeled this as a national health emergency, we need to act on this momentum to effectively combat this crisis.

This begins by considering every possible solution.
