LOS ANGELES, California – At a star-studded concert in Hollywood, President Obama joked that unlike the rock stars who were on stage before him, he doesn’t always perform perfect each night.
The president praised the stars for performing on stage flawlessly night after night and followed up with “I can’t always say the same,” a reference to his debate performance on Wednesday, which was widely viewed as a win for his GOP opponent Mitt Romney.
The concert came on the heels of his best fundraising month yet, and featured performances by Jon Bon Jovi, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry and Jennifer Hudson.
George Clooney introduced the president at the concert at the Nokia Theatre in front of 6,000 people, most of whom paid $250 to attend.
Even though he spoke in front of the crowd shortly after the concert, he didn’t actually get to see the performances.
Obama gave his standard stump speech, but also changed the order, starting off the top with his foreign policy credentials.
He told the energetic crowd that he’d wind down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and bring justice to those who attacked on 9/11.
The placement up top is noticeable given that Romney is giving what is billed as a major foreign policy speech Monday in at the Virginia Military Institute.
Also, the next presidential debate is next Tuesday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York with the specific focus of foreign policy.
While he’s in Los Angeles, Obama is also doing a high dollar dinner for 150 guests who paid $25,000 to hear the president and eat food at WP24 by Wolfgang Puck. Former President Bill Clinton is also attending the dinner.
Tomorrow Obama heads to Keene, California for the dedication of the César E. Chávez National Monument before heading to San Francisco for another concert with John Legend and Michael Franti.
