Dr. Keith Ablow has been taking heat over comments he made about first lady Michelle Obama’s weight on the August 12th broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Outnumbered.”

During a segment related to the first lady’s push for healthier school lunches, the doctor said “…She needs to drop a few … Let’s be honest, there’s no French fries happening? That’s all kale and carrots? I don’t buy it.”

The comments angered viewers, many of whom aired their options via Twitter.

Appearing on the show again Thursday, Ablow responded to his critics saying, “The context was to remind people the draconian standards set by the first lady and her school lunch program, such that children are throwing their school lunches away – they’re inedible … And what I was reacting to was the hypocrisy … for someone who has struggled with her own weight – which I think she would agree with – who has struggled, so many of us have. For someone like that to say, we’re going to set draconian standards and dial everything so far down that it’s inedible…”

Ablow’s comments drew strong reactions from the rest of the “Outnumbered” panel as they defended the first lady’s fitness.

“Should each of us lose five pounds? Probably,” Ablow continued.

“Maybe for future appearances, you think about what you’re going to say before you say it,” “Outnumbered” co-host, Sandra Smith said to Ablow. ;

But Ablow stood by his argument.

“We all could be a little more fit,” he added.
